Lifestyles of the chronically stupid

ICW update:

She's served her husband the divorce papers, which he refuses to sign. Since she kicked him out of the house, though, her father has moved in, she's got the new pit bull, she's taking care of the asthmatic son of a friend who is going through a divorce, she has two new ferrets that she was just going to "re-home" for someone but has instead decided to keep, ditto one of the two pit bull puppies she has at the moment (the other one is being re-homed Saturday), and now I just overheard her on the phone saying she wants a sugar glider and a fish tank. Presumably there will be fish in the tank. All this while working two jobs, looking for a new car, and trying to get divorced. Oh yeah, and the lesbian mother of those three kids she fostered a few years ago got out of prison and, with the kids, has reconnected with ICW. I think she's trying to get her to take one of them back.

I work 40 hours a week, have absolutely no obligations beyond feeding myself, sleeping and going to the bathroom (all three of which I enjoy thoroughly), and still I feel like the days aren't long enough. So what the fuck is up with people who insist on complicating their lives at every turn? It's just something I don't understand, but then unhurried and unconcerned is my automatic setting. Along with boring.

Some people seek the drama like moths seek the flame.

Sounds like she brings in all these animals to raise them better than her mother raised her. It is her way of fixing things.

Her life really does sound exhausting. And not in a productive way.

I'm with Julie. I think she likes the drama. Plus, she needs to learn one little word: no.

Maybe she feels like she has to prove she's a good person.

I can't imagine taking all of that on. Some days I feel like showering is a lot of work (but I do it anyway, I swear.)

unconcerned is good. don't let people tell you otherwise.

That last paragraph convinces me that we are internet Soul Brothas. Word.

It sounds like she's got priorities. As in everything is her priority. I love that you enjoy going to the bathroom. Sometimes I too find it to be the best part of my day. I need to get out more.

I know a person with a similar lifestyle. Every time she tells me stories of how hard her life is (like it is literally very hard), I think about that nap I didnt get to take yesterday and how truly hard it is for me to be me.

Poor girl is a walking doormat.

Personally, I'm betting the sugar glider will live in the fish tank, not that that changes much for her.

julie- And they both get burned. Or something.

dutchess- I think you are exactly right.

npw- And then I get exhausted having to hear about it. Constantly.

meaghan- Yes on the no.

allie- Everyone's a psychologist today. Kidding. I agree- she's filling a hole.

survivingmyself- I won't.

aaron- I wouldn't be too proud of that if I were you. It's nice to have company, though.

noelle- Bathroom time rules.

em- I spend all my worrying on figuring out who I am and how to find happiness. Other people worry about stuff.

chris- Doormat, indeed. You're probably right about the sugar glider. I think they're pretty small and a cage might not hold them.

I'd say somewhere along her branchless family tree she lost the gene which allows her to uncomplicate.

Thanks for linking sugar glider. You don't wanna know I assumed it might be ...
Weird but I was sitting around the house thinking that I'm so glad that I don't have kids like other Muslim women my age. I'm just way to selfish and lazy to give up things like sleep for a kid I will despise in 16 years time.

I think I could sum up how we all feel about ICW: bless her little heart!

modern gal- You may have something there.

sid- I had no idea what a sugar glider was until I looked it up.

meaghan- I'll add to that: Better her than me!

my dad wanted to own a sugar glider a few years ago. apparently willy loman's new trade is selling flying squirrels. my family was meandering around the flea market in nashville when the salesmen sent his sugar glider over to seal the deal. the only one he convinced was my father who, for esoteric reasons, believed it would be an asset to have a flying rodent with him at all times.

i will never understand.

You're a selfish person and you'll regret this attitude one day when you're old and alone.

Or not.
