Did I really leave a post about Rage Against the Machine up for two weeks?

Okay, folks- the Gods of Blog are conspiring against me. It's hard enough to post (and read) regularly when you live in a cabin in Wyoming that isn't wired for telephone or cable, but lately I haven't even had much internet time at work. On top of that, my laptop decided quite out of the blue that it no longer has any interest in connecting wirelessly to anything at all. It's as if I'm suddenly back in my dorm room, circa 1997, staring at the monitor of my unconnected Gateway, a cut-off island in the nascent World Wide Web, dividing my time between Microsoft Works and SimCity2000. Of course my laptop is far more portable than that old dinosaur was, but I would have had just as much luck hauling that monster into the library the other week as I did with my lightweight year-old Compaq. That is to say none, although at least carrying a mid-90s desktop around would have given me some real exercise.

And it really sucks because I actually have been writing posts and I even made another (completely awesome) video. I can't upload any of it, though, until I can get my computer to once again realize its own wireless potential. And the government prohibits me from plugging a flash drive into the unit I'm currently typing on, so I'm not left with many options. This is the first shift I've had in two weeks in which I've had the luxury of an hour here or there to sit down and bang out this sorry excuse for a post about making sorry excuses. Damn it!

But Courtney has been pushing me to explore our internet options at our rather remote residence because once she arrives (one week!), chica's gonna want some net. There are options, the primary one being mobile broadband from Verizon, but I'm not a big fan of signing a two- or even one-year contract, and not a cheap one at that, for something we'll only need for five months. And it probably wouldn't even work all that great.

But hey- I've been getting into the mountains a little bit and the weather is finally looking up. It stopped snowing! I'm in short sleeves at work! The sun glints blindingly off the highest snowfields with the brilliant fluorescence of a thousand angels!

Sorry. It got away from me a bit there.

Point is, I miss reading all of you and I'm doing everything in my power to get the situation under control. Until then, I'm going climbing.

I figure since it's easier for you to climb mountains than get online, I should at least do you the solid of leaving a comment. (And thanks again for your recent comments!) Also, thanks for taking me back to the dorm room dial-up days. Throwback!

I hope you find a way to join the class of 2009 soon.

Kim and I are still planning on showing up at your door on June 10. I'm going to have to find some reliable source of internet though because I'll have to work on my masters classes while I'm out there and they're all online.

But that's not your responsibility. It just means I need to find a place with wireless internet I can go to at least once or twice during the week.

Personally, Mickey, I don't want your excuses.

I have lots of time on my hands. You can always dictate your posts to me.

Hey, I'm not the only one who wants us to have internet access in the cabin. My blogging public demands it.

When you get around to it, your "I am" section in your sidebar says you still live in Knox-my-socks-off, Tennessee. Why must you lie?

I think a little Internet sabbatical would do all of us a bit of good now and then. Particularly if you're breathing in mountain air instead of sitting inside staring at a screen. Enjoy it.

I only cried like five times since you left, so I think I'm getting better. But it still hurts.

Oh I loved Sim City. Sim Ant too -- you helped the ants drive the humans out of the household.

Seriously, you cannot expect us to take a break from your blogging AND Courtney's blogging. Y'all have already run away from Knoxville, and I'm still crying about that.

And don't worry, I've been keeping the blogging to a minimum, so you're not missing out on that much from me.

I hope you're wearing sunglasses so those fluorescent angels don't blind you. :)

Despite being in the middle of a city of over a million, the only internet we can get is mobile broadband - contract and high price included. It's OK once you get past the ridiculousness of it all.

Internet or no, it sounds pretty nice up there in Cheney country.

MORE PICTURES! When Courtney gets to you, I demand a Jig Movie, Part Two: Big Country Jiggin'.

We've missed you, but I'm with Stefanie. If you're getting mountain air instead of staring at a screen, we really can't blame you!

Meaghan lies. I'm really good at holding a grudge.

On top of that, staring at the "Your anger is a gift" post for a couple weeks can really enhance one's natural gift of blaming others, being angry and grudge-holding.

We had problems getting internet when we first moved. We live on the side of a mountain. (Or as mountainy as it gets here on the East Coast! The picture you posted earlier are real mountains!) We ended up getting a Sprint mobile card and router because we weren't sure how long we would be here. That way if we move we can take it with us. Don't know if they have that available out there but it's pretty reliable here. Not quite as fast as cable or DSL, but much, much faster than dial up. It's almost up to DSL speed, just not quite.

Sounds like quite the conundrum. I'll refrain from posting to my blog for now, just so you don't miss anything.

Enjoy the climbing.
