A Very Kind Moron

NaBloPoMo, Day 3.
Before I begin, which I clearly already have, I’m sitting here on this Saturday night in front of what I guess is a compelling football game in which Alabama has just gone ahead of LSU in the fourth quarter. I’m drinking a Dogfish Head 90-minute IPA and, like everything from Delaware (including GoreTex, the Fightin’ Blue Hens, and myself), it’s awesome. Actually the only bad thing about Delaware is that it’s the return address on most of that unsolicited junk mail that you get from credit card companies. Oh, and there’s nothing to do there.

What I’d really like to do with this post, though, is atone somewhat for my earlier posts featuring the exploits of a certain co-worker. Actually, I just want to describe her more redeeming side, which really does warrant attention. No, I’m not going soft and I do fully intend to keep plumbing her life for blog post fodder. I’m depending on it, really, but here is what she and her supposedly no-good husband did for Halloween: She starts by telling me that she dressed up and went trick-or-treating, at which point I rolled my eyes because she’s in her thirties. The thing is, I can actually picture her standing amongst a gaggle of children at a stranger’s door asking for candy as they give her the stink-eye and her thinking there’s nothing unusual about it. And that may be exactly how it went except that, when she’d collected a fair amount of candy, she and her husband drove down to the homeless shelter and handed it all out. They stopped on the way and bought some more, as well. What a heart of gold! Seriously, the girl’s a moron (sorry, and god I hope she never reads this) but what a cool thing to do.

So no matter what else I may relate about this certain co-worker, and there will most definitely be more incredulous posts aiming for laughs at her expense, her heart is totally in the right place. God, she’s dumb, but she sure is nice. I hope she never reads this. LSU won.
